Owner Profile- Jack Duran
Prior to receiving my law degree, I enjoyed a successful fifteen plus year career with the worlds largest transportation and information company, United Parcel Service, working out of UPS's Rocklin Center. Starting as a package car unloader I worked my way up the hiring ladder until I was promoted to the highest non-management position, Service Provider. I served businesses and residents of El Dorado County for more than twelve years.
I received my Bachelor of the Arts degree in Government, from California State University Sacramento in 1998, and my Juris Doctorate from McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific in 2002. In law school, I received numerous scholarships and honors including, Sacramento County Bar Association Fellowship, Dean's Honor Roll, Witkin Award, an internship as a Clerk for the Honorable Joe S. Gray, Sacramento Superior Court and designated the Most Outstanding Law Student for the 2002 day division.
Upon graduation and passing the bar exam, I was admitted to practice law in California as well as the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Northern District of California.
Following bar passage, I started my law career with a prominent insurance-law firm where I successfully represented the states largest insurance companies and county and local government agencies.
In 2003, I received an appointment as a Deputy Attorney General with the California Department of Justice (DOJ), assigned to the Civil Division. While with the DOJ, I represented the Department of Corrections, California Youth Authority and State Parole Board. While a Deputy Attorney General, I handled numerous civil matters, including inmate conditions of confinement, Habeaus Corpus, abuse of force and the alleged denial of constitutionally required health care.
In 2004, I accepted a position with the nations largest Native American law firm. While there, I represented numerous California and Non-California Indian tribes on multiple issues concerning federal recognition and gaming development, gaming licensing, labor, employment, insurance, lobbying and litigation matters. I also served as a general counsel to several Native American owned casinos and legal entities. While serving as a general counsel, I second chaired a gaming client management dispute that resulted, after a 40 day arbitration, in a multiple million dollar savings for the tribal client.
I am a member of the Sacramento and Placer County Bar Associations, and the State Bar of California.
I am a deep believer in volunteerism and the rewards that are reaped when giving of yourself, as such I devote my time to the following organizations:
McGeorge Law School-Latino Lawyers Association Advisor
Placer County Peer Court-Judge/Mentor Attorney
Roseville Joint Union High School District - Board of Trustees member
Woodcreek Jr. Timberwolves Football and Cheer - President
In my spare time, I love to fish, golf, a good debate and spending time with my family.
