Tribal Law
Tribal Government Support
A unique area of my practice concerns the representation of Indian Tribes, Tribal Governments and Tribally created entities, providing quality and affordable Tribal government support and legal counseling. Our assistance includes, drafting of tribal resolutions, Constitutions and codes, negotiation of jurisdictional issues with Local, State and Federal Agencies and implementation, training and support of tribal boards and commissions.
Tribal Gaming and Gaming Finance
I have also represented tribal gaming facilities and provide advice and opinions concerning compliance with Federal and State gaming rules. I have assisted tribes with rules falling under: the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA), National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC), United States Department of the Interior-Bureau of Indian Affairs, (BIA),Interior Board of Indian Appeals (IBIA); California Gambling Control Commission (CGCC), California Department of Justice-Division of Gambling Control (DGC) and the California Tribal/State Compact. I also have experience negotiating Tribal/State Compacts with the California Governor’s Office of Legal Affairs.
My office also has many contacts with tribal gaming and non-gaming financiers and investors. If you are in need of financing for that tribal gaming or non-gaming project, please let us know and we will do our best to find an investor who has the resources to advance your project needs.
Independent Counsel Services
In addition to the above services, we also assist tribes, tribal gaming facilities and Gaming Commissions with discreet investigations and fact gathering assignments concerning tribal and gaming facility compliance matters, including, but not limited to: employee investigations, abuse of authority investigations, patron and employee injury investigations; misuse of tribal or gaming facility property and tribal and gaming facility internet security concerns. We also enjoy working on special projects with Tribe’s who have existing legal counsel.
Federal Recognition and Fee-to-Trust
My Tribal experience includes assisting tribes with federal recognition matters, including conducting and overseeing research projects to restore the federal recognition of terminated tribes, preparing historical and aboriginal lands research and preparation of documents to place fee lands into trust with the United State’s Government.
